Who stays a whole week in Venice can do almost everything: walks through streets and squares, visits to museums, galleries and churches, shopping and  gastronomic tour, excursions to the islands or  evenings at the theater.    

If you decide to visite exhibitions and museums, do not forget to ask our staff to make the reservation for you:  you will o avoid lengthy and laborious code, or worse, the disappointment of not finding the place.    

Day 1    

Panoramic tour of the city and Piazza San Marco

Canal Grande - San Marco

From Piazzale Roma you can go  with vaporetto line 1 throughout the Grand Canal to Piazza San Marco. The route takes about an hour. 

During the trip you can admire the most beautiful buildings of the city:

  • the church of San Simeon Piccolo, opposite the train station (subject of many paintings by Canaletto).
  • Fontego dei Turchi, home of the Museum of Natural History;    
  • Ca' Vendramin Calergi, winter home of the Casino di Venezia;    
  • Ca' Pesaro, home of the International Gallery of Modern Art;    
  • the beautiful Ca' d'Oro, the home of the Franchetti collection;    
  • Palazzo Cavalli, where you celebrate civil marriages;    
  • Ca' Foscari, home of the University of Venice;         
  • Palazzo Grassi, the seat of important exhibitions;    
  • Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, the home of the Peggy Guggenheim collection;   
  • the church of the Madonna della Salute, ex voto to Our Lady of the Venetians after the plague of 1630;

Who has the patience and courage,  can visit the inside of the Byzantine basilica. But attention to the que. It is often  often very long and despairing.    

If you visit the city in autumn or winter, buy  the boots for high water. The San Marco area  is often submerged.    

At Palazzo Ducale, you can choose between the classic or secret route.    

The classic route leads to the prisons through the bridge of Sighs.    

Secret itineraries includes visiting  secret rooms, the are open to the public only on request and visits are made only with a guide and at times and conditions.    

Accessibility - For disabled the Secret Itineraries are not viable.    

Reservations:

Families with children may  visit the bell tower of San Marco. Even here armed with patience. The que is  almost always, but it's worth it to enjoy a wonderful view from the highest point of the city. 

Back to the Hotel by waterbus
Go to the San Zaccaria Jolanda, you will find the vaporetto n. 2, which goes first to the Giudecca Island (with stops at San Georgio, Zitelle and Redentore, Giudecca), than goes to the Zattere and from there to the San Basilio, where is the Hotel Tiziano.    

Day 2

Church of San Nicolo dei Mendicoli - Zattere - Madonna della Salute
You can visit the church of San Nicolò dei Mendicoli which is just minutes away.    
Continue along the Zattere, and have a look at  the beautiful San Trovaso, one of the last yards of gondolas still active in the city.    

Walk through all Zattere until the tip of Chiesa della Madonna Salute, visit the church and see the basin of San Marco from a unique perspective.
Peggy Guggenheim and the Accademia Gallery    

On the way from the Chiesa della Salute to the Accademia is the main entrance to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection.

The gardens of Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, the home of the Guggenheim, are extraordinary  as the masterpieces of the collection. Continue your tour and you will reach the Gallery of Accademy.

You can ask the hotel reception Tiziano to book for you the tickets for the Gallery of the Accademy.

From there, turn left towards Campo San Barnaba.
Here you can choose to continue in the direction of Campo Santa Margherita and Campo dei Carmini, or take the long Calle San Barnaba, on the left from the Campo San Barnaba, which goests to the Churches of San Sebastian and of the Angelo Raffaele. Once there, you will quick find the hotel.

Day 3    

Visit the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello

Fondamente Nuove
  • vaporetto LN: Murano, Mazzorbo, Burano, Torcello

From Piazzale Roma you can reach the Fondamenta Nuove vaporetto (line 41) or on foot. 

Walking from Piazzale Roma to Fondamente Nuove:
From Piazzale Roma go to the train station and from there on long Lista di Spagna and then into the Strada Nuova area until the Santi Apostoli. 

In the Holy Apostles, turn left and  reach the area of the Jesuits.From there in a few minutes you will reach the Fondamenta Nuove.    

From Fonamente Nuove take the line LN (Lagunari lines) which goes  to the three islands: Murano, Burano and Torcello.    

Usually a visit to the island lasts one day.    

At Torcello don't miss to see the throne of Attila.

At Burano you must try the famous bussolai buraneli, delicious sweet typical of the island.

At Murano, well, the choice is yours. Only the embarrassment will remain cautious.

Day 4    

Ca' Rezzonico - Chiesa dei Frari e Scuola Grande San Rocco - Rialto

Ca' Rezzonico and the Museo del Settecento Veneziano

From the hotel reach  the Campo San Barnaba in only 10 min walking.

Cross the Campo  diagonally and take the street that runs alongside the church of St. Barnabas. Go to the Grand Canal and then turn left. After the bridge you will find the main entrance of Ca' Rezzonico.

Chiesa dei Frari e Scuola Grande San Rocco
From Campo San Barnaba find directions to get to the Frari. On your way you  will pass in front of Ca' Foscari, the seat of the University of Venice.    
Once you left behind the Calle Larga Ca' Foscari, turn left onto a street called Crosera (that means crossing). Proceed to the end, where you will find one of the most famous pastry shops of Venice: Tonolo. Enjoy the excellent bignè and the extraordinary pasuale buns.

Shortly before reaching the pastry on the right is a sottoportico.    

Walk through the sottoportico, cross the bridge and you will arrive  in Campiello San Rocco. Another sottoportico will take you to Campo San Rocco.    

On the left, there is the church and the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, which houses the famous paintings of Tintoretto.    
Opposite, you will see the beautiful apse of the church of the Frari.
Campo San Tomà - Campo San Polo - Rialto

From Campo dei Frari continue in the direction of Rialto.
On your way to Rialto, you will see Campo San Tomà,  with its beautiful Scuoletta dei Calegheri, and the giant Campo San Polo.     
Beetwen Campo San Tomà and Campo San Polo is the museum house of Carlo Goldoni (San Polo 2794 - 30125 Venice).

After Campo San Polo continue in the direction of the Rialto market, where you can stop to eat in one of the clubs in erbaria, former home of the wholesale market.     

Nearby you can see the Rialto Bridge, leading to Campo San Bartolomeo, a crossroads of the city. 
Rialto - Strada Nova - Ca' d'Oro - Piazzale Roma
From Campo San Bartolomeo follow the signs to the train station and Piazzale Roma.     
Go along the Fondaco dei tedeschi, which since 1870 houses the headquarters of Postal Venice. You will arrive in Salizada San Giovanni Grisostomo.

From there follow the crowd and you will find the area of the Santi Apostoli where is the Strada Nova, one of the longest and wide streets of the city.

Approximately half of Strada Nuova, between the bridge of the Santi Apostoli and the bridge of San Felice, is the Campo Santa Sofia where you might take the gondola ferry that takes you to the Rialto fish market.

A little later, in a calletta on the left is the entrance to the Ca' d'Oro, where you can visit the Franchetti gallery with works by Venetian, Tuscan and Flemish school.     

Returning to Strada Nuova, continue straight towards station and Piazzale Roma.   

Day 5 

Discovering the Venice minor  - The Sestiere of Cannaregio

The Ghetto of Venice
From Piazzale Roma go in the direction of Santa Lucia train station and from there continue along the Lista di Spagna and Campo San Geremia.     

Cross the bridge of Guglie and reach the other side of the canal. Turn left along the Fondamenta Pescheria. After a few meters on the right, found a sottoportico, which leads in calle del Forno.
Here you are at the beginning of the Ghetto of Venice.     
Here you shoul observe the houses, very high and crowded. You find out why ...     

In the Ghetto, you can visit the synagogues and the Jewish Museum.     

The Museum is open every day except Saturdays and Jewish holidays, December 25, January 1 and May 1.    

Opening hours

  • from October 1 to May 31, from 10:00 to 16:00.
  • from June 1 to September 30, from 10:00 to 19:00.
  • Guided tours at synagogues are done every half hour starting at 10.30.

Information

Campo Sant'Alvise
From the Campo del Ghetto Nuovo cross the bridge and turn right into the Fondamenta Ormesini.
It is a very poplar, typical Venetian area.

Turn left at Calle de la Malvasia, and then take calle del Capital and cross the wooden bridge. You will reach Campo Sant'Alvise with the splendid church.
The facade is simple and essential, with the portal stone of Istria.     

Inside, three paintings by Giambattista Tiepolo made between 1737 and 1740.
Chiesa della Madonna dell'Orto
From Campo Sant'Alvise, cross again the wooden bridge and the Calle del Capitelo. Walk until the Fontamenta Sensa. Here turn left and walk down the fondamenta until it encountered Calle Loredan on your left.    
Take the end and turn right at Calle Larga Piave. From here you will see the Church of the Madonna dell'Orto.    

The facade and the cloister are of the second half of the fifteenth century, the statues of the early sixteenth century.    
In the same period, the bell tower dome, completed in 1503.    

Inside are many  works of extraordinary painters and sculptors: Jacopo Tintoretto, buried in the right aisle and whose bust is the work of wood by Napoleone Martinuzzi, Giovanni Battista Cima da Conegliano, Giovanni di Paris Bordone, Jacopo Palma il Giovane, Tiziano Vecellio, Giovanni Bellini, and many others. 
Campo dei Mori
After visited the church, we suggest you to take the fondamenta and after a few meters, to cross the bridge on the right and you will arrive to the Campo dei Mori.    

Campo dei Mori is famous because here are the house where Jacopo Tintoretto lived and the home of the Moors, where the field takes its name.    

On the corner of the building known as Palace of the Camel, on your left, you will notice the beautiful statue of Tre mori (three moors).    
The tradition tells that the Tre mori were three brothers Mastella, originally from the Peloponnese.

Here is also Palazzo Martelli, renamed Palazzo Cammello (Palace of the Camel) because of a bas-relief depicting the animal.    

The legend says that the palace, starting in 1757, was haunted by ghosts. For several days and at the same time, the bells inside the rooms seem to play simultaneously, causing the terror of the inhabitants of the palace. 
The chaplain of San Fantin camed, made an exorcism and everything ended.
Chiesa dell'Abbazia della Misericordia
From Palazzo Martelli take the Calle Larga and go straight to the Fondamenta della Misericordia.
Here turn left and walk along the foundation to the end.

Before the bridge look at your left. You will see the residential buildings and the School of Santa Maria della Misericordia. Here is also the Church of th Abbazia della Misericordia.     

The little church, which originally had a Byzantine structure, is in Venetian Gothic style.
Chiesa di Santa Maria dei Miracoli
Go bak to the fondamenta della misericordia, cross the bridge and you will reach Fondamenta San Felice. Follow it all up to return to the main street, the Strada Nova.     

Turn left, pass the bridge of San Felice and continue to the campo of the Santi Apostoli.
To avoid the crowds, continue straight, crossing the entire campo of the Santi Apostoli and continue along the campo behind the church.     

Cross the square diagonally and then go down the street that you will find in front of you.

At the end, turn right and then immediately left. You will emerge in the campiello Cason. Continue walking and take the calletta in front of you. Cross the bridge, remembering to touch the iron hooks that are about 2.5 meters high on your left. The Venetians believe they bring a good luck.     

After the bridge is Campo San Canciano. Continue straight and at the end of the road turn left.
There is Santa Maria Nuova.     

On your right is the splendid church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli.     
Known to be an appearance several times in the movie Bread and Tulips (nearby the workshops was the protagonist), is truly a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture and magnificent.     

The inside is decorated in marble, the work of Pietro Lombardo with his sons Tullio and Antonio.

Day 6 

Discovering the Venice minor - The Sestiere of Castello

From the vaporetto stop, go along the avenue of the Public Gardens and turn on your right, towards Sant'Elena. Midway is the main entrance to the halls of the Biennale.

You are in one of the most authentic and genuine parts of the city.
    
It is worth getting lost in the surroundings of this area which still preserves intact the spirit of the lagoon city.     

Continue walking on the east and you will come to the island of San Pietro di Castello, one of the oldest settlements in the city.

Continue westward, you will find Riva dei Sette Martiri, with view over the basin of San Marco.     

Here is the Museo Storico Navale, very interesting must for the young people.     

Next to the museum, on the left is Calle Malvasia and Fondamenta Arsenal which leads to the famous Arsenale.    
The Arsenale
Heart of Venetian naval power from the twelfth century, the Arsenal covers a huge area in the city.

In the past the Arsenal was producing 300 ships a year, almost one a day, thanks to the work of about 17,000 workers (the arsenalotti).     

Today, the arsenal is used only in small part for shipbuilding activities, especially as the site of exposure.

For a history of the Arsenale, we recommend the  interesting book of  Filippo Maria Paladini, Arsenale e museo storico navale di Venezia. Mare, lavoro e uso pubblico della storia, Il Poligrafo, 2008.
La Scuola di San Giorgio degli Schiavoni
From the Arsenale continue along the fondamenta up to Campo San Martino, pass the church that hold on the left and pass the iron bridge in front of you.     

Turn right along the fondamenta, then left into Calle del Pestrin. Turn the first street right and you will  arrive in the Salizada Pignater to Bragora, another very characteristic area of Venice.     

Here you can visit the beautiful campo Bandiera e Moro, one of the few areas in Venice that do not bear the name of a saint, and the lovely church of San Giovanni in Bragora.     
The late Gothic church has a basilica structure, with tripartite facade.
    
Inside are works of the great painters such as Jacopo Palma il Giovane, Giambattista Cima da Conegliano, Sebastiano Da Milano.

In the church were baptized Bragora illustrious personage as Pope Paul II and Antonio Vivaldi.

Go back in the Salizada del Pignater and take Salizada Sant'Antonin. At the end turn right on Fondamenta dei Furlani.     

In front of you, you will see the Scuola di San Giorgio degli Schiavoni.     

The school is also known by the name of Scuola Dalmata di San Giorgio and Trifone. School is a home of a beautiful art gallery that keeps the cycle of Carpaccio.     

Trade relations between Venice and the Dalmatian were very close and many Dalmatian, called "Schiavoni" by the Venetians, moved in together within the city confraternity under the protection of their Saints George, Tryphon and Jerome.     
In early 1500, the Brotherhood erected the present school, which houses the paintings of Carpaccio dedicated to the history of the patron saints of the Dalmatians.     
Ponte dei Greci - Palazzo Grimani
Cross  the bridge on  the left of the School, go straight in the direction of San Marco and you will reach the fondamenta San Lorenzo.     

On the left you will see the church of the Greeks, with its bell eerily wrong.     

In front of you a sottoportico leads in calle dei Preti and Fondamenta San Severo.
Go over the bridge in front of you, continue through the Salizada Giorgi, then take the first right into the Ruga Giuffa.

At the Ruga Giuffa is situated Palazzo Grimani which is now open to the public.

Santa Maria Formosa
At the end of the Ruga Giuffa is Campo Santa Maria Formosa.     

Very distinctive and large step has irregular shape and is dominated by magnificent buildings.     

On the left, coming from Ruga Guffa, is the church of Santa Maria Formosa, renewed several times, destroyed by fire and rebuilt.     

The current version has different architectural styles: renaissance, classical, baroque.     

The bell tower was added in 1688 and is known for the grotesque face of stone that lies at his feet.

Inside the church are works by Palma il Vecchio, Santa Barbara and the Saints, the Trittico della Misericordia by Bartolomeo Vivarini, the Madonna in piety and St. Francis of Assisi by Jacopo Palma il Giovane, some paintings from the school of Bellini, a Madonna and Child and the San Domenico Tiepolo, a dinner by Leandro Bassano.    
Campo SS. Giovanni e Paolo
From the bridge of the Ruga Giuffa, take the second street on the right, Calle Larga of the Santa Maria Formosa, known to the Venetians by the name of Cale Longa.     

Take the Calletta, the third left, and go straight. You will arrive in the Campo SS. Giovanni e Paolo.     

The church of SS. Giovanni e Paolo (San Zanipolo to the Venetians) is among the most impressive medieval buildings in the city. Has the highest tripartite facade, a huge central rose window and two smaller lateral eyes.     

The lower part of the facade has six large niches that hold some Gothic tombs.     
The portal is adorned by six marble columns.     
Three kiosks placed on top of the facade are dedicated to the holy Dominican St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Dominic and St. Peter Martyr.     

Even the wonderful side of the church around the field, behind which you can still see how it was done the paving of medieval Venice.     

The church has a Latin cross with three naves and the transept, towering columns and towering Gothic times, connected by wooden rods.     

Also here are numerous works by famous painters and sculptors: Giovanni Bellini, Pietro Lorenzetti, Pietro Liberi, Leandro da Bassano, the Padovanino, Vivarini, Palma il Giovane, Guido Reni, Pietro Lombardo.
Back to the hotel by waterbus
To return to the hotel, we suggest you take a boat.     

The pier is located nearest to Fondamenta Nuove. The line 51 takes you to Piazzale Roma and from there to arrive in less than 10 minutes.
